Ranking

The procedure "Ranking" orders the cases used by the analysis by the score they receive as a result of using an index composed of more indicators. The "Ranking" procedure provides the following information:

·       the list of analyzed cases, ordered descending, starts from the case with the highest value of the index down to the case with the smallest value, each case having attached its corresponding rank; near each case, according to the established breaks, there is also indicated the color corresponding to the case. This ensures consistency in using colors, just as for the procedure "Standards".

·       the list of descriptive files (similar to that of the procedure "Profiles") for each case/commune; a the beginning of the list there are shown the indicators composing the index, as well as the weights given to each indicator; for each case separately, the descriptive file comprises indicators and the way they relate to the overall average.

·        a map with the analyzed cases, colored according to the position they take in the ranking set by the index.

Example:

The procedure "Ranking" applied to the development index DEZV_1.

The index consists of the following indicators that have received a weight, favorable or not, depending on whether the indicator is desirable or not:

Variabilă Descriere : Pondere
%POP_FARA_SCOALA % populație fără școală -1
POP_INACTIVA/1000ACTIVA Rata întreținere = populație inactivă la 1.000 persoane active -1
%LOC_FARA_ALIM_APA % locuințe fără alimentare cu apă -1
%LOC_FARA_ELECTRICITATE % locuințe fără electricitate -1
%CLADIRI_ALTE % clădiri alte materiale - chirpici, vălătuci, paiantă -1
%CLAD_DUPA_1989 % clădiri construite după 1989 1
%POP_OCUP_CRESTERE Creșterea populației ocupate (angajați) - 2002 versus 1992 1

The list of cases indicates the position each case has depending on this indicator: the commune Bârnova holds the first place and will be colored green, whereas the commune Victoria is ranked last, hence receiving the color brown (because the maximum of 4 breaks has been chosen, the cases are symbolized using five colors, from dark green to brown). The descriptive files are generated for each case separately and can be compared.

Case Study:

The commune Tomești holds the 3-rd place within the ranking established by the indicator DEZV_1 and will be displayed on the map using the color green.

Tomesti         Rang:15

%POP_FARA_SCOALA

1.91

POP_INACTIVA/1000ACTIVA 1197.00
%LOC_FARA_ALIM_APA 38.34
%LOC_FARA_ELECTRICITATE 5.40
%CLADIRI_ALTE 77.86
%CLAD_DUPA_1989 33.91
%POP_OCUP_CRESTERE 1.19

The descriptive file brings in the following information:

·        the percentage of population without education is below the district average (because this indicator has been considered undesirable for the development of the commune, thus receiving the weight "-1", its nearby color bar shows green, even if it is placed below average, hence indicating a good situation).

·        the inactive population per 1000 economically active population ratio is below the district average (because this indicator has been considered undesirable for the development of the commune, thus receiving the weight "-1", its nearby color bar shows green, indicating a quite favorable situation, given the average for the entire district).

·       the other indicators can be interpreted likewise: the commune has quite fewer dwellings without water supply and without electricity, less buildings of less durable materials: adobe, wattle (%CLADIRI_ALTE), a higher percentage of new buildings (built after 1989).
